For Today ... For Our Future
Status of the Sprint Campaign
The following email was sent out toFriends of Badger on July 19 as an update. |
Dear Friends, we’re able now to report the status of our “Sprint to the Summit” campaign.
First Thank you! for your generosity in our effort to raise funds to acquire additional ridge land. You contributed $113,000 in cash and over $38,000 in pledges for a total of over $151,000. Yes, far from our $1 M goal, yet a striking amount in such a short time. This is more than we raised in our original campaign for Badger Mountain in 2004-05. We have over $45,000 remaining from that campaign, the majority of which is pledged for an additional parcel of land that abuts the Badger Mountain Preserve.
We want to acknowledge some special contributors. Two anonymous $ 5,000 challenges from members of the Fun, Fit and Over Fifty Club were met and in fact surpassed for a total club contribution of $23,580! The Benton County Conservation District gave nearly $7775 and Pasco-Kennewick Rotary gave $2000. We also had several very generous pledges which we will announce as the funds are received.
A NEW CHALLENGE has been issued by the Comstock and Grant families. We will match future donations up to $10,000.00. A great opportunity to “double your money!” Donation form attached or go to our web site.
Changes and New Information
As we approached the June 30 date we learned from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) that their schedule had changed and we did not need to raise the $1M match in cash and pledges by June 30. Fortunately, this gives us more time to achieve our goal. The FOBM Board and the City of Richland took this opportunity to evaluate our ability to raise the remaining funds. The results of the initial fund raising efforts convinced us that the community is strongly behind us and that we could proceed with finalizing our $1M matching funds proposal to the RCO. The new date by which to raise our $1M is January 31, 2009. The longer time is especially valuable to raise corporate funds. We cannot rest and will move forward aggressively with your help.
We apologize for any confusion in the change from our original message. That was the information we had from the RCO at the time. We worked very hard to communicate accurately and clearly in our “Answers to Fundraising Questions” and have revised this to incorporate the new information.
Commitment and Procedure
FOBM’s commitment is still the same: to preserve as much of our area’s remaining ridge land as we can and to create trails for non-motorized recreational access. FOBM’s procedure for acquiring land is also still the same: to raise the money for purchase at appraised fair market value from a willing seller.
