SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - February 29th
DESCRIPTION:For this trailwork party we will be meeting at the Westgate parking lot off of Dallas Road. \nThis trailwork party will focus on the new trail toward Little Badger Mountain. We’ll be working two shifts\, 8:30-12:30 and 12:30-4:30\, and will meet at the Westgate parking lot off of Dallas Road. We will then carpool to the work site. \nWe pay for the rental equipment by the day so there will be two work shifts each day\, 8:30 to 12:30 and 12:30 to 4:30. We will be using a Kubota mini-excavator and our gravel hauler. While the machines do the hard work but we still need caring hands to finish the trail. Lots of caring hands! Grab a friend or two and come help. The work will mostly be knocking the dirt off of grass clumps and raking out small rocks and smoothing the trail for gravel. We plan to add the gravel as we go so hopefully you will be able to see fresh new trail before you leave. \nThe trailmaster will need a lot of help to build the new trail\, at least 5 people a shift. \nThe trailmaster will provide all the tools and even some cookies at the mid-day break. Volunteers will need to bring work gloves\, water and snacks with a pack to carry them\, and dress for the weather forecast. There isn’t any work for preteens and younger\, it is just hard to keep them motivated for 4 hours. \nSignups help our trailmaster with planning and making sure he bakes enough cookies. Sign-ups are also good in case of last minute changes to the schedule. Please let our trailmaster know that you are coming by sending an email to trailmaster@friendsofbadger.org

SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - February 25th
DESCRIPTION:For this trailwork party we will be meeting at the restroom building at Trailhead Park at 8AM. \nOn Tuesday the Sagebrush Trail will be closed so we can rebuild the corner just above our new junction. We will be using the excavator to do the digging and will use the dirt to fill in the old corner. Rebuilding the corner is the last major part of the project to upgrade the Sagebrush Trail. I hope to complete this in one day. \nThe trailmaster will provide all the tools and even some cookies at the mid-day break. Volunteers will need to bring work gloves\, water and snacks with a pack to carry them\, and dress for the weather forecast. SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - February 23rd
DESCRIPTION:For this trailwork party we will be meeting at the restroom building at Trailhead Park at 8AM. \nThe Sagebrush Trail has now been made 5 feet wide from the top to the bottom. The crews last week completed cutting out the uphill bank of about 1200 feet of the trail over the 4 days. In a few places they moved the downhill edge over instead so a sagebrush plant on the uphill side could be saved. The wider trail allows more room for runners and bicycles and even other hikers to safely pass other trail users. The crews have been thanked for the work many times as people pass by. \nBut the job is not quite complete. The work this week will be widening the 400 feet of the Sunflower Trail that connects the Sagebrush and Canyon Trails then finish building the new junction and touch up the trail. The weather forecast is calling for more nice temperatures\, little wind and some more sun. Great trail working weather! \nAdvanced notice on Next Week – Starting the new trail!:\nTuesday\, February 25 through\, Sunday\, March 1st\, 8:30 to 12:30 and 12:30 to 4:30 PM\nMeeting location to be determined \nOn Tuesday the Sagebrush Trail will be closed so we can rebuild the corner just above our new junction. We will have an excavator to do the digging and will be moving the dirt to fill in the old corner. This should finish the Sagebrush Trail project so on Wednesday we will START BUILDING THE NEW TRAIL! \nWe pay for the rental equipment by the day so there will be two work shifts each day\, 8:30 to 12:30 and 12:30 to 4:30. I have a few openings for operators of the Kubota mini-excavator and our hauler. Experience operating equipment would be preferred but training is available. While the machines do the hard work but we still need caring hands to finish the trail. Lots of caring hands! Grab a friend or two and come help. SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - February 9th
DESCRIPTION:For this trailwork party we will be meeting at the restroom building at Trailhead Park at 8AM. \nWe had some more of that great weather this last week\, well except for windy Saturday when high winds caused me to cancel work. The week out forecast is calling for more nice temperatures and some more of that wind. We will see how that works out. \nDespite missing Saturday\, the crews got a good start on widening the Sagebrush Trail\, completing the first 400 feet in two days. We are using our newest gravel hauler to move the dirt down the trail where it is being used as part of the reworking that really bad corner. \nThis week we will continue with the widening project. The work will be with shovels and two of our haulers to cut about a foot out of the uphill bank and haul off the dirt. We will then touch up the trail and add some gravel. \nIt has been announced that we will be building a new trail heading off towards Little Badger this spring. However I will start the work off slow\, not renting any expensive equipment just yet. That way if the winter decides to come back for a visit we can sit back and wait it out. \nThe trailmaster will provide all the tools and even some cookies at the 10:00 break.

SUMMARY:Opt to Act with REI and Friends of Badger Mountain
DESCRIPTION:We’ll be teaming up with REI for this project\, meeting at Trailhead Park at 9:00AM. \nFor this outing we will be cleaning up some trash and removing some old fencing from the parcel to the east of Badger Mountain. This is where we will be building the next link trail heading towards Little Badger Mountain. We will spread out to cover the 16 acre sagebrush covered lot to pick up the acclimation of litter plus remove an old fence. \nThe trailmaser will provide all of the necessary tools for the work. Volunteers will need to bring work gloves\, water\, and snacks with a pack to carry them. Dressing for the weather is also advised. There’s also isn’t any work for preteens or younger. \nSignups help our trailmaster to plan trailwork and also baking enough cookies for all of the volunteers. This also helps in case of last minute schedule changes. Let our trailmaster know you’re coming by emailing trailmaster@friendsofbadger.org

SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - November 24th
DESCRIPTION:For this trailwork party we will be meeting at the Candy Mountain Trailhead at 8:30AM. \nFor this week we will be working on Candy Mountain. We will be continuing rock placement along the edge of the trail we built last year. A lot of people think we place the rocks to make the trail look good which it does but they are really needed to support the edge of the trail. It also maintains the width of the trail and keeps the loose gravel from going down the hillside. \nThe trailmaser will provide all of the necessary tools for the work.
