SUMMARY:Tailwork Party - May 26th
DESCRIPTION:We have had a task come up; it is part of our trails to Little Badger – we need to remove some gravel. The work will be scrapping the gravel into piles and then loading it into our gravel hauler which will then move it to nearby storage piles. We will be using Mcleods\, shovels and buckets.\n\nThe schedule is Thursday\, Friday and Saturday May 26 to 28\, 8:30 AM to 12:30. We will be meeting by the restroom building in Trailhead Park and then driving closer to where it is just a short walk to the work site so you will need to be on time.\n\nThe weather forecast looks like good Tri-Cities weather for May. The temperatures will be cool in the mornings with a maybe little wind on Friday.\n\nThe trailmaster will be working elsewhere\, mostly chopping back those weeds on the side of the trails so David Comstock will be leading these work parties. We will provide all the tools\, volunteers will need to bring work gloves\, water and snacks with a pack to carry them\, and dress for the weather forecast. There isn’t any work for preteens and younger\, it is just hard to keep them motivated for 4 hours.\n\nSignups help with planning and are also good in case the works goes faster than expected. This will involve removing the grasses\, moving some rocks\, installing the sign and then graveling the platform. \nThe second project is part of the new trail to Little Badger. I will be renting an excavator to help with building a rock wall. Since we are renting equipment we will be working morning and afternoon shifts. The excavator will be doing the heavy lifting but I will need help with the final positioning of the rocks. \nThe weather forecast looks like good Tri-Cities spring days\, you know a little wind and mild temperatures. SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - November 28th
DESCRIPTION:This week we will continue working up near the summit of Candy Mountain adding more rocks to the downhill edge of the trail.  This is needed because the edge of the trail is breaking down causing the trail to get wider and sloped.  We dig a small hole to hold the rock and then tamp dirt in around it to make it stable.  We will be using a pickup truck and our gravel hauler to move the rocks to the work site so the hard part is made easy.  We will be using shovels and hand trowels to place the rocks.  With the rain we have been getting\, it is near ideal soil conditions to be doing this work.  \nWe will be meeting at the Trails Building in the Westgate parking lot off of Dallas Road\, 5305 East PR 210 at 8:30 am.  Please be on time.  We will then carpool over to near the work location.  \nThe trailmaster will provide all the tools.  Volunteers will need to bring work gloves\, water and snacks with a small pack to carry them\, and dress for the weather forecast.  There isn’t any work for preteens and younger\, it is hard to keep them motivated for 4 hours.  Back again this fall the trailmaster will be providing homemade cookies for the morning break!  \nYou will need to sign-up so the trailmaster can tell you if the meeting location changes.  Please let the trailmaster know that you are coming by sending an email to trailmaster@friendsofbadger.org

SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - November 27th
DESCRIPTION:This week we will continue working up near the summit of Candy Mountain adding more rocks to the downhill edge of the trail.  This is needed because the edge of the trail is breaking down causing the trail to get wider and sloped.  We dig a small hole to hold the rock and then tamp dirt in around it to make it stable.  We will be using a pickup truck and our gravel hauler to move the rocks to the work site so the hard part is made easy.  We will be using shovels and hand trowels to place the rocks.  With the rain we have been getting\, it is near ideal soil conditions to be doing this work.  \nWe will be meeting at the Trails Building in the Westgate parking lot off of Dallas Road\, 5305 East PR 210 at 8:30 am.  Please be on time.  We will then carpool over to near the work location.  \nThe trailmaster will provide all the tools.  Volunteers will need to bring work gloves\, water and snacks with a small pack to carry them\, and dress for the weather forecast.  There isn’t any work for preteens and younger\, it is hard to keep them motivated for 4 hours.  Back again this fall the trailmaster will be providing homemade cookies for the morning break!  \nYou will need to sign-up so the trailmaster can tell you if the meeting location changes.  Please let the trailmaster know that you are coming by sending an email to trailmaster@friendsofbadger.org
