DESCRIPTION:Update: The weather again slowed us down with high winds causing the Thursday and Friday work parties to be canceled. Saturday’s crew including 7 gals from the Columbia Burbank High School Equestrian Team completed the rough clearing work of the final 400 feet. Sunday’s crew came in and started the detailed preparation before we put down the gravel. We are getting closer to completing this big job. All we need are helpers! \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis week’s work will be to do the final clean up and preparations and then adding the gravel. We will be starting at the far end and working back towards the gravel pile at the road crossing. The trail bed will be smoothed out\, protruding rocks removed\, the back slope will be added\, any narrow spots fixed and then gravel will be laid down. This is the fun part because you get to see completed trail being made. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Trailmaster will lead work parties every Thursday through Sunday mornings starting at 8 and ending at noon until around Thanksgiving. The work will be to complete the Skyline Trail project and then move on to other maintenance. The Trailmaster knows\, you always wanted to help but can’t seem to get an open day to do it. Directions: turn off of Dallas Rd. onto PR669 Rd. NE. Drive uphill to the parking lot on the right Don’t leave anything in your car that may appear valuable since some car break-ins have occurred.Duties: Locating and hand pulling Yellow Starthistle and Diffuse Knapweed Plants. The Rush Skeletonweed plants are left rooted in the ground\, but are clipped of their blooms and buds\, and the remaining plant stems individually “painted” with Roundup herbicide. (not all crew members do this task). Plants range in size from short\, small plants to larger branched plants with thorns. At present\, plants are ranging from only a few inches in height up to 3 feet in height\, depending on species and individual growing conditions. They may occur as single plants\, small groupings\, or in sizable patches. Presently we are seeing weeds in the full blooming stage with many in seeding stage\, making for the need for quick removal. We will bag and remove the plant material. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nTools and Clothing: Bring good strong gloves — leather is best! Long sleeved shirts and long pants are recommended for scratch and sun protection. Don’t forget a hat. A small set of pruning clippers is often useful. Generally\, just pulling and bagging the plants has proven to be the most practical method of removal. Since we are constantly moving\, a fanny pack or small backpack is useful to carry your “stuff” — gloves\, phone\, water\, snacks\, tools\, sun protection\, etc. Bring heavier plastic bags for the weeds if you have them – like feed bags or potting soil bags\, etc. I will have bags\, too. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nTerrain: Be advised that we are working off-trail where the ground is sloped and uneven with plenty of other common weeds and native plants to wade through\, rocky in some areas — sturdy boots recommended. I suggest using boot gaiters to keep the Cheatgrass out of your socks and boots\, as it is plentiful this year! \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nFYI: The nearest toilet is at the trail-head. At present\, plants are ranging from only a few inches in height up to nearly 3 feet in height\, depending on species and individual growing conditions.They may occur as single plants\, small groupings\, or in small patches. Presently we are seeing some weeds starting into the blooming stage\, making them more easily identified\, but also needing quicker removal. We will bag and remove the plant material. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nTools and Clothing: Bring good strong gloves — leather is best! Long sleeved shirts and long pants are recommended for scratch and sun protection. Don’t forget a hat. A small set of pruning clippers is sometimes useful. Generally\, just pulling and bagging the plants has proven to be the most practical method of removal. Since we are constantly moving\, a fanny pack or small backpack is useful to carry your “stuff” — gloves\, phone\, water\, snacks\, tools\, sun protection\, etc. Bring heavier plastic bags for the weeds if you have them – like feed bags or potting soil bags\, etc. The weedmaster will have bags\, too. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nTerrain: We are working off-trail where the ground is sloped and uneven with plenty of dry Cheatgrass\, rocky in some areas — sturdy boots recommended. The weedmaster suggests using boot gaiters to keep the Cheatgrass out of your socks and boots. DESCRIPTION:Time: 7:00 – 10:00 AM. Working period is always flexible\, just communicate your intentions with the leader. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWhere:  Updated once email for date goes out \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDuties: Locating and hand pulling Yellow Starthistle and Diffuse Knapweed Plants. The Rush Skeletonweed plants are left rooted in the ground\, but are clipped of their blooms and buds\, and the remaining plant stems individually “painted” with Roundup herbicide. (not all crew members do this task). Plants range in size from short\, small plants to larger branched plants with thorns.
