SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - October 24th
DESCRIPTION:Now two weeks into the fall trail work season and the project to a half mile of the Skyline Trail. We lost today due to the high winds but the last night’s rain was much needed and will make the work and trail better. The work with the excavator has been completed and now the trail needs to be cleaned up. The rocks need to be separated from the needed dirt and then hauled away\, then the trail bed smoothed out and new gravel put down. Right now it is about 35% cleaned up and 10% has new gravel. Lots left so come help! \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Skyline Trail from the upper service road crossing to the junction with the Canyon Trail by the towers will remain closed until this project is completed. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Trailmaster will lead work parties every Thursday through Sunday mornings starting at 8 and ending at noon until around Thanksgiving. The work will be to complete the Skyline Trail project and then move on to other maintenance. The Trailmaster knows\, you always wanted to help but can’t seem to get an open day to do it. Well you can schedule a day now and maybe find a friend to come along! \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nTHE SCEDULE:Work days are Thursday to SundayTime – 8 to noon \n\n\n\nMeeting Place for all days this week: by the Trails Building at the Badger Mountain Westgate parking lot off of Dallas Road. We will then carpool to near the work site. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Trailmaster will provide all the tools and even some homemade cookies at the break. Volunteers need to bring work gloves\, water\, and snacks with a small pack to carry them\, and dress for the weather forecast. There isn’t any work for preteens – it is hard to keep them motivated for 4 hours. Those 13 to 15 will have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. You will need to sign-up so the Trailmaster can plan the work\, bake enough cookies and let you know if plans change. Please let the Trailmaster know that you are coming by sending an email to trailmaster@friendsofbadger.org

SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - October 30th

SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - November 7th
DESCRIPTION:Weekly Update: The push this week will be to do the rough clean up that last 400 feet. The rocks need to be separated from the needed dirt and then hauled away. After it is cleaned the trail bed will be smoothed out\, protruding rocks removed\, the back slope will be added\, any narrow spots fixed and then gravel will be laid down. This is the fun part because you get to see completed trail being made. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSchedule:Work days are Thursday to SundayTime – 8 to noon \n\n\n\nMeeting Place: \n\n\n\nTBD \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Trailmaster will provide all the tools and even some homemade cookies at the break. SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - November 29th
DESCRIPTION:Update: It was another good week of work on the project to widen a half mile of the Skyline Trail. The trail was prepared for gravel and then graveled with now only about 400 feet remaining to be worked. The Inter-Mountain Alpine Club (I-MAC) provide a lot of help on Saturday. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWe got the CanyCom\, our tracked gravel hauler\, working again on Tuesday. The fuse block was damaged during a vandalism incident a few weeks ago and it took a while to trace that intermittent fault down. The fuel gauge still isn’t working right and there is a short in the horn but we can get around these problems. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSchedule:Work days are Saturday and SundayTime – 8 to noon \n\n\n\nMeeting Place: \n\n\n\nTrails Building at Westgate Trailhead \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Trailmaster will provide all the tools and even some homemade cookies at the break.

SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - March 12th
DESCRIPTION:Time: 8 to noon \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMeeting Place: The route to the meeting place crosses private property so the Trailmaster will provide a map you sign up. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Work: The work will be to clean up the rough trail to get it ready for adding gravel. This will involve mostly moving dirt with McLeods and shovels and then packing it (walking on it). The weather forecast is looking windy but don’t worry\, this area is well protected from the wind. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThere will be work parties scheduled every week on Thursdays to Sunday\, 8 to noon until April 12th. If you cannot make it to this week’s work\, there are plenty of chances to help later. Pick a day\, maybe even find a friend to bring along and let me know. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Trailmaster will provide all the tools and even some homemade cookies at the break.
