SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - March 19th
DESCRIPTION:This week we will continue working near the top of Candy Mountain. We will be improving the tread and adding more rocks along the edge. The trailmaser can provide rides to the top so we don’t have to walk up. So far the weather forecast looks great. \nThis week’s schedule:\nThursday March 17 to Sunday\, March 20\, 8:30 to 12:30.\nMeeting by the kiosk in the Candy Mountain parking lot. \nThe Trailmaster will provide all the tools and even some homemade cookies at the 10:30 break.  Volunteers will need to bring work gloves\, water and snacks with a pack to carry them\, and dress for the weather forecast.  There isn’t any work for preteens and younger\, it is just hard to keep them motivated for 4 hours. \nSignups help with planning and making sure The Trailmaster bake enough cookies.  Sign-ups are also good in case The Trailmaster make last minute changes to the schedule.  Please let me know that you are coming by sending an email to trailmaster@friendsofbadger.org \nJim Langdon\nTrailmaster\, Friends of Badger Mountain\nTrailmaster@friendsofbadger.org\n509-943-3992 or 509-940-7234

SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - March 13th
DESCRIPTION:Last weekends work parties worked on improving some of the trail at the Candy Mountain summit.  A short section just before the rock benches had become very rough\, so rough that people were no longer using it but instead hiking next to it.  If repairs were not made that alternate path would become just as rough and the trail would have moved again.  The Friday and Sunday crews smoothed the trail by removing rocks and then added new gravel to protect it.  In the attached picture\, all the rocks next to the trail came from the trail.  The second photo shows the Saturday crew repairing another rough spot a little further down.  \nThis week’s schedule:   \n\n          Thursday March 10 to Sunday\, March 13\, 8:30 to 12:30.  \n          Meeting by the kiosk in the Candy Mountain parking lot.  \n\nCan’t make it this week?  The Trailmaster will be having trail work parties every Thursday through Sunday in to April.  Add a date to your calendar now.  \nIt has been announced that the Friends of Badger Mountain have successfully raised the money needed to purchase land and can extend our trails closer to Little Badger.  Well\, there are still details that need to be worked out so no new trails that way just yet.  So instead we will be working on general trail maintenance and upgrades.  \nThis week we will continue working near the top of Candy Mountain.  The section to the benches was built by Ray Merriman pretty much working by himself.  We will be improving the tread and adding more rocks along the edge.  The Trailmaster can provide rides to the top so we don’t have to walk up. Please let the trailmaster know that you are coming by sending an email to trailmaster@friendsofbadger.org

SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - November 28th
DESCRIPTION:This week we will continue working up near the summit of Candy Mountain adding more rocks to the downhill edge of the trail.  This is needed because the edge of the trail is breaking down causing the trail to get wider and sloped.  We dig a small hole to hold the rock and then tamp dirt in around it to make it stable.  We will be using a pickup truck and our gravel hauler to move the rocks to the work site so the hard part is made easy.  We will be using shovels and hand trowels to place the rocks.  With the rain we have been getting\, it is near ideal soil conditions to be doing this work.  \nWe will be meeting at the Trails Building in the Westgate parking lot off of Dallas Road\, 5305 East PR 210 at 8:30 am.  Please be on time.  We will then carpool over to near the work location.  \nThe trailmaster will provide all the tools.  Volunteers will need to bring work gloves\, water and snacks with a small pack to carry them\, and dress for the weather forecast.  There isn’t any work for preteens and younger\, it is hard to keep them motivated for 4 hours.  Back again this fall the trailmaster will be providing homemade cookies for the morning break!  \nYou will need to sign-up so the trailmaster can tell you if the meeting location changes.  Please let the trailmaster know that you are coming by sending an email to trailmaster@friendsofbadger.org

SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - November 12th
DESCRIPTION:For exact details on work planned\, reach out to trailmaster@friendsofbadger.org \nThis next week we will continue working on the Sagebrush Trail rock wall and if we have time move over to Candy Mountain.  We will be using our gravel hauler to move the rocks to the work site so the hard part is made easy.  We will also be using shovels and hand trowels. \nYou will need to sign-up so the trailmaster can tell you if the meeting location moves to Candy Mountain.  Please let the trailmaster know that you are coming by sending an email to trailmaster@friendsofbadger.org

DESCRIPTION:For exact details on work planned\, reach out to trailmaster@friendsofbadger.org \nWe will be working under the COVID restrictions\, but it is all outside low risk work (View FoBM’s Safety Plan). There will be a limit of 12 people. We will be keeping at least 6 feet apart\, masks will be required if we need to work closer. \nThe trailmaster will provide all the tools. Volunteers will need to bring face masks\, work gloves\, water and snacks with a pack to carry them\, and dress for the weather forecast. We will meet by the restroom build in Trailhead Park at 8:30 AM. There isn’t any work for preteens and younger\, it is just hard to keep them motivated for 4 hours. Please note that the work location is near the top of the Canyon Trail so be prepared for a hike to work. Unfortunately the COVID rules do not allow the sharing of food so I will not be providing cookies. \nSign-ups help with planning and making sure there are enough tools. Sign-ups are also good in case the trailmaster makes last minute changes to the schedule or meeting location. Please let the trailmaster know that you are coming by sending an email to trailmaster@friendsofbadger.org
