DESCRIPTION:For this work party we’ll be working on finishing the trail into the new parking lot. This will include building a rock wall where the trail will come down in the parking lot\, raking out and then graveling the last 400 feet of trail\, and a few other tasks. \nWe will be meeting at 9 AM at the Candy Mountain Preserve Trailhead parking lot. We like people to tell us they are coming so we can plan the work and have the tools available. I like people to tell me they are coming so I can plan the work and have the tools available. If you become available or have a friend you can just show up. We can be difficult to find if you miss the 9 AM meeting. \nVolunteers should bring work gloves\, snacks and water\, and dress for the weather forecast. Tools are provided. Right after you go underneath I-182 turn left on gravel road PR 669. Go 1/4 mile to where you see space for five cars in a parking lot on the right. Otherwise park carefully on the side of the road. \nComing from Pasco\, Kennewick and Richland on I-82\, take the southbound exit. Go one block and turn left on Dupertail. Go two long blocks and turn right on Keene. Take Keene westbound to the traffic circle. Take the Bombing Range Road exit toward the mountain. This turns into Dallas Road. Proceed up Dallas and just before the I-182 overhead turn right onto gravel road PR 669. DESCRIPTION:Friends of Badger Mountain and the Washington Native Plant Society will be planting sagebrush in a buffer area between the soon-to-be parking lot for the new Candy Mtn. trail and nearby houses. We only have 60 sagebrush to plant – if we get 10 people that’s just 6 plants a piece and then we’re done! \nJoin us this coming Friday\, March 3\, at 9 AM next to the future parking lot (see map). Make your voice heard on this important issue.\nEach year\, Washington Trails Association is in Olympia working with lawmakers to advance the interests of hikers. But we can’t do it alone. \nDecision-makers need to hear directly from hikers like you! Elected officials need to know that their constituents–you–care about preserving wildlands\, accessing trails and funding for trail maintenance. \nIt is critical that the hiking community comes out in force for Hiker Rally Day. SUMMARY:Winter Solstice Hike
DESCRIPTION:If it’s been a bit too dark and dreary for you\, fear not. The winter solstice\, the first day of winter\, arrives on Wednesday\, December 21\, when the hours of daylight start to grow longer. Some of us plan to be on top of Badger Mountain to watch the sun set\, at 4:14 PM\, from the west peak facing Rattlesnake Mt. \nWe’ll be going up the Skyline Trail.  Meet at the Westgate Parking lot\, off of Dallas Road\, at 3:20 PM (if you want to walk at a brisk pace\, you could leave a little later).  Bundle up\, and bring a flashlight for the trip down the mountain.  If there is still snow\, Tracs and a pole are excellent for stability.
