DESCRIPTION:The main work will be to continue recovering the gravel up the Sagebrush Trail.  Those pesky hikers tend to work the gravel over to the side\, we rake it back into the trail and clean up the edges then relevel the trail bed.  We try to do this work for all the trails each year.  We will use the McLeods (large rake/hoe combination)\, garden and leaf rakes. \nWe will be meeting at 9 AM at Trailhead Park near the restroom building. I like people to tell me they are coming so I can plan the work and have the tools available. If you become available or have a friend you can just show up. We can be difficult to find if you miss the 9 AM meeting. Please send an email to Trailmaster@friendsofbadger.org (preferred) or call me at 943-3992. \nVolunteers should bring work gloves\, snacks and water\, and dress for the weather forecast. Tools are provided. There is little work for those 12 and under\, it is hard to keep them on task for 4 hours. If you have a group from work\, church or the gym that would like to come at another time\, I can work with you. If I can get some good sized work crews over the next few weeks\, we have really good a chance of having the trails in great shape for the Badger Mountain Challenge.

DESCRIPTION:Friends of Badger Mountain and the Washington Native Plant Society will be planting sagebrush in a buffer area between the soon-to-be parking lot for the new Candy Mtn. trail and nearby houses. We only have 60 sagebrush to plant – if we get 10 people that’s just 6 plants a piece and then we’re done! \nJoin us this coming Friday\, March 3\, at 9 AM next to the future parking lot (see map). Make your voice heard on this important issue.\nEach year\, Washington Trails Association is in Olympia working with lawmakers to advance the interests of hikers. But we can’t do it alone. \nDecision-makers need to hear directly from hikers like you! Elected officials need to know that their constituents–you–care about preserving wildlands\, accessing trails and funding for trail maintenance. \nIt is critical that the hiking community comes out in force for Hiker Rally Day. DESCRIPTION:Join I-MAC’s annual trek up Badger Mountain on New Year’s Day\, a tradition over 60 years old.  Everyone is welcome to join the fun. The trip goes on regardless of the weather\, so make sure that you dress appropriately.  Although the hike starts @ 10:30 am\, if you come a little late (or a little early)\, just head up the trail when you arrive.  If you want\, bring treats for sharing at the top\, another part of the tradition!   \nHike: Skyline Trail from the Dallas Road parking lot to the top and return\, about 4 miles round trip and 800 foot elevation gain.

SUMMARY:Winter Solstice Hike
DESCRIPTION:If it’s been a bit too dark and dreary for you\, fear not. The winter solstice\, the first day of winter\, arrives on Wednesday\, December 21\, when the hours of daylight start to grow longer. Some of us plan to be on top of Badger Mountain to watch the sun set\, at 4:14 PM\, from the west peak facing Rattlesnake Mt. \nWe’ll be going up the Skyline Trail.  Meet at the Westgate Parking lot\, off of Dallas Road\, at 3:20 PM (if you want to walk at a brisk pace\, you could leave a little later).  Bundle up\, and bring a flashlight for the trip down the mountain.  If there is still snow\, Tracs and a pole are excellent for stability.
