SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - April 20th
DESCRIPTION:Weekly Update: This will be the last week of the spring trailwork season.  If you were planning to help then this is it until October. There will be some days of cutting the weeds back with string trimmers and maybe pulling tumbleweeds. With the wet winter there will probably be lot of them. It was a good week with great weather and crews. OK Saturday’s crew was not so good because I had only one helper but I had good turnout the other three days including 10 helpers from Visit Tri-Cities on Thursday. Got a lot done that day. Over the four days we completed another 300 feet in our project to widen and regravel the Skyline Trail. The work is going quicker because the uphill bank is not as tall.  \n\n\n\nTrailwork Plan: Widening the Skyline Trail will continue being the main work for this season.  We will be making it at least 5 feet wide from below the summit working our way west. For all of these we will meet at the Trails Building by the Westgate Parking lot off of Dallas Road (west side of Badger) and then carpool to near the work.The trailmaster will provide all the tools and even some homemade cookies at the mid-morning break. Volunteers need to bring work gloves\, water\, and snacks with a small pack to carry them\, and dress for the weather forecast. There isn’t any work for preteens – it is hard to keep them motivated for 4 hours. Those 13 to 15 will have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. You will need to sign-up so the trailmaster can plan the work\, bake enough cookies and let you know if plans change. DESCRIPTION:Weekly Update: Last week we lost three days due to the weather but while it was blowing outside we finished the work in the Trails Building Thursday and Saturday\, the one good weather day\, we did some exploratory work for a trail to Little Badger.  No Badger Mountain Challenge runners over there!Trailwork Plan: Widening the Skyline Trail will continue being the main work for this season.  We will be making it at least 5 feet wide from below the summit working our way west. For all of these we will meet at the Trails Building by the Westgate Parking lot off of Dallas Road (west side of Badger) and then carpool to near the work.The trailmaster will provide all the tools and even some homemade cookies at the mid-morning break. Volunteers need to bring work gloves\, water\, and snacks with a small pack to carry them\, and dress for the weather forecast. There isn’t any work for preteens – it is hard to keep them motivated for 4 hours. Those 13 to 15 will have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. SUMMARY:2025 Badger Mountain Challenge (Sign-Up Required)
DESCRIPTION:The Badger Mountain Challenge offers 5 distances; the popular 15k\, 55k\, 50-miles\, the new 100-Kilometer\, and the ultimate challenge: 100-miles. SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - December 1st
DESCRIPTION:This Week’s Plan: We finally have some moisture so we can get back to working on the Sagebrush Trail rock wall. In part of the Sagebrush Trail the dirt is different\, it doesn’t stick together very well so it is continually sluffing off on to the trail. The wall was started a few years ago and we work on it when we can. We will use the gravel hauler to move rocks to the work site and then stack them. Tools will small hand trowels\, packing sticks and little shovel work. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWhen: Saturday and Sunday\, November 30 and December 1.Time: 8 to noon \n\n\n\nMeeting Place: by the Trails Building at the Badger Mountain Westgate parking lot off of Dallas Road. We will then carpool to near the work site. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe trailmaster will provide all the tools and even some homemade cookies at the mid-morning break. Volunteers need to bring work gloves\, water\, and snacks with a small pack to carry them\, and dress for the weather forecast. There isn’t any work for preteens – it is hard to keep them motivated for 4 hours. Those 13 to 15 will have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. You will need to sign-up so the trailmaster can plan the work\, bake enough cookies and let you know if plans change. Please let the trailmaster know that you are coming by sending an email to trailmaster@friendsofbadger.orgThere may be more work parties next week\, we will have to see how the weather holds out.

SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - November 17th
DESCRIPTION:The crews last week completed removing the rocks from the worse part of the east Skyline Trail and graveled about 400 feet of it.  The trails are still pretty dry but hopefully this week’s rain will help that. \n\n\n\nThis week we will continue working on the east Skyline Trail.  The work will be to remove a few more rocks near the lower road crossing\, widen it out to 5 feet and then adding some new gravel.  The remaining rocks near the road are a little bigger so we will be using pick mattocks and pry bars.  Other than those few remaining rocks the trail in this area is mostly dirt and it is easy work to widen and smooth the trail out with McLeods and rakes and adding the new gravel. \n\n\n\nWhen: Thursday through Sunday\, November 14 to 17. \n\n\n\nTime: 8 to noon \n\n\n\nMeeting Place: the Badger Mountain Westgate parking lot off of Dallas Road.  We will then carpool to near the work site. \n\n\n\nLast week the trailmaster had one helper on Thursday\, five on Friday\, two on Saturday and three on Sunday.  Potential schedule this week depending on help:  Thursday remove the last of the rocks.  Last week the crew had a blast getting out the large rocks.  It is teamwork and you don’t have to be strong to do it.  On Friday or Saturday the trailmaster would like to have at least five helpers lay down the gravel.  Hopefully on Sunday we can then finish this project with cleaning up the last of the trail. \n\n\n\nThe trailmaster will provide all the tools and even some homemade cookies at the mid-morning break.  Volunteers need to bring work gloves\, water\, and snacks with a small pack to carry them\, and dress for the weather forecast.  There isn’t any work for preteens and younger – it is hard to keep them motivated for 4 hours.  You will need to sign-up so the trailmaster can plan the work and bake enough cookies.  Please let the trailmaster know that you are coming by sending an email to trailmaster@friendsofbadger.org \n\n\n\nIf you can’t make it this week\, there will work parties on Thursday through Sunday\, until around Thanksgiving.  We will see how the weather holds out.
