SUMMARY:Forum on I-732 An Initiative to Tax Carbon in Washington State
DESCRIPTION:From WSU Tri-Cities Website: The League of Women Voters (LWV) of Benton and Franklin counties will moderate a forum on Initiative 732 (I-732) on September 30\, 2016\, at 7:00 PM in the WSU-Tri-Cities East Auditorium\, in Richland\, WA. \nI-732 will be on the ballot in Washington in November. If passed\, the measure will tax carbon emissions generated by certain fossil fuels and fossil-fuel-generated electricity\, with the objective of cutting emissions and thereby helping to combat climate change. The measure is designed to be “revenue neutral\,” by virtue of tax swaps and targeted rebates. \nAt the forum\, a representative from Carbon Washington (CarbonWA) will give a brief overview of I-732\, followed by representatives of environmental groups and labor organizations describing their support for or opposition to I-732. There will be an opportunity afterwards for written questions from the audience. \nThe forum will help voters in our community make an informed decision about I-732 when they mark their ballots for or against in November.

SUMMARY:Fall Equinox Hike
DESCRIPTION:Friends\, this coming Thursday\, 9/22\, is the fall equinox\, on which the last sunset of summer – or the first sunset of fall – occurs at 6:53 PM. Some of us will be on top of Badger Mountain to celebrate this celestial event and to acknowledge the waning days of too much sunshine and heat. \nWe’ll leave from the lower (gravel) Badger Mountain Trailhead parking lot\, near the top of Queensgate Dr\, by 6:00. We’ll go up the Canyon Trail to get to the western summit of Badger Mt\, at the second set of towers facing Rattlesnake Mt\, hopefully before the sun sets. If you want to walk briskly\, you could leave later than 6:00. Bring a friend\, appropriate clothing\, and a flashlight in case you linger on the mountaintop. Hope to see you there. There will be no moon in our sky that evening\, not until it rises at 11:21 PM.

SUMMARY:Trail Work This Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Badger Mountain Trailmaster Jim Langdon has been waiting for a little rain before starting work this fall\, as the trails have been very dry.  Now that we have received almost a third of an inch\, it is time to start before the weather gets too cold. \nJim will have work parties this weekend\, Saturday and Sunday\, from 9 to 1 PM. We will work on raking the gravel in from the sides of the trail and grooming the trail itself.  The work will be using garden and leaf rakes and McLeods\, our large hoe/rake tool. \nWe will be meeting by the restroom building in Trailhead Park at 9 AM and working to about 1.  Jim needs everyone to sign up in advance so he can plan the work and have tools available.  You will need to be on time because we may not have brought enough tools for late comers.  There will be little work for preteens and younger.  To sign up\, send Jim an email at trailmaster@friendsofbadger.org or call him at 943-3992 (email is best). \nAll tools will be provided.  You will need to bring work gloves\, water and snacks and dress for the weather forecast.  We will be constantly moving up the trail\, so bring a small pack to carry your water and snacks in. \nThanks for wanting to help with the Badger Mountain Trails!
