SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - October 23
DESCRIPTION:The work will be general maintenance to fix trail issues from all the traffic over the last 7 months. There are several pot holes that need patching and gravel that has worked its way off the trail needs to be recovered. \nWe will be working under the COVID restrictions\, but it is all outside low risk work (View FoBM’s Safety Plan). There will be a limit of 5 people to a group but there can be more than one group. We will be keeping at least 6 feet apart\, masks will be required if we need to work closer. \nMost of the work will be getting the gravel back on the trail. For this we will be using rakes and McLeods (kind of a big rake/hoe thing). \nI will provide all the tools. Volunteers will need to bring face masks\, work gloves\, water and snacks with a pack to carry them\, and dress for the weather forecast. There isn’t any work for preteens and younger\, it is just hard to keep them motivated for 4 hours.

The work is different from most other trail work because you get to use your creative brain power. \nSignups help our trailmaster with planning and making sure he bakes enough cookies. We are using our newest gravel hauler to move the dirt down the trail where it is being used as part of the reworking that really bad corner. \nThis week we will continue with the widening project. The work will be with shovels and two of our haulers to cut about a foot out of the uphill bank and haul off the dirt. We will then touch up the trail and add some gravel. \nIt has been announced that we will be building a new trail heading off towards Little Badger this spring. However I will start the work off slow\, not renting any expensive equipment just yet. That way if the winter decides to come back for a visit we can sit back and wait it out. \nThe trailmaster will provide all the tools and even some cookies at the 10:00 break. SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - February 2nd
DESCRIPTION:For this trailwork party we will be meeting at the restroom building at Trailhead Park at 8AM. \nIt has been announced that we will  be building a new trail heading off towards Little Badger this spring. However\, our trailmaster will start the work off slow\, not renting any expensive equipment just yet. \nWe will start by widening the Sagebrush Trail. The wider trail will allow us to bring the excavator down after the new trail is completed to fix the badly eroded lower turn/junction. The work this week will be with shovels and two of our haulers to cut about a foot out of the uphill bank and haul off the dirt. We will then touch up the trail and add some gravel. \nThe trailmaster will provide all the tools and even some cookies at the 10:00 break. Volunteers will need to bring work gloves\, water and snacks with a pack to carry them\, and dress for the weather forecast. There isn’t any work for preteens and younger\, it is just hard to keep them motivated for 4 hours. \nSignups help our trailmaster with planning and making sure he bakes enough cookies. DESCRIPTION:Join FoBM friends Saturday\, 12/21\, for a hike to celebrate winter solstice\, the “shortest day of the year” and to cheer on the lengthening days to come. The sun will set at 4:13 PM. Group hike will start on the Canyon Trail by 3:15 to get to the western summit of Badger before the sun sets. Dress appropriately and bring a flashlight in case you need it for the hike back down.

DESCRIPTION:We’ll be teaming up with REI for this project\, meeting at Trailhead Park at 9:00AM. \nFor this outing we will be cleaning up some trash and removing some old fencing from the parcel to the east of Badger Mountain. This is where we will be building the next link trail heading towards Little Badger Mountain. We will spread out to cover the 16 acre sagebrush covered lot to pick up the acclimation of litter plus remove an old fence. \nThe trailmaser will provide all of the necessary tools for the work. Volunteers will need to bring work gloves\, water\, and snacks with a pack to carry them. Dressing for the weather is also advised. There’s also isn’t any work for preteens or younger. \nSignups help our trailmaster to plan trailwork and also baking enough cookies for all of the volunteers. DESCRIPTION:For this trailwork party we will be meeting at the Candy Mountain Trailhead at 8:30AM. \nFor this week we will be working on Candy Mountain. We will be continuing rock placement along the edge of the trail we built last year. A lot of people think we place the rocks to make the trail look good which it does but they are really needed to support the edge of the trail. It also maintains the width of the trail and keeps the loose gravel from going down the hillside. \nThe trailmaser will provide all of the necessary tools for the work.
