SUMMARY:Trailwork Party - March 10th
DESCRIPTION:Last weekends work parties worked on improving some of the trail at the Candy Mountain summit.  A short section just before the rock benches had become very rough\, so rough that people were no longer using it but instead hiking next to it.  If repairs were not made that alternate path would become just as rough and the trail would have moved again.  The Friday and Sunday crews smoothed the trail by removing rocks and then added new gravel to protect it.  In the attached picture\, all the rocks next to the trail came from the trail.  The second photo shows the Saturday crew repairing another rough spot a little further down.  \nThis week’s schedule:   \n\n          Thursday March 10 to Sunday\, March 13\, 8:30 to 12:30.  \n          Meeting by the kiosk in the Candy Mountain parking lot.  \n\nCan’t make it this week?  The Trailmaster will be having trail work parties every Thursday through Sunday in to April.  Add a date to your calendar now.  \nIt has been announced that the Friends of Badger Mountain have successfully raised the money needed to purchase land and can extend our trails closer to Little Badger.  Well\, there are still details that need to be worked out so no new trails that way just yet.  So instead we will be working on general trail maintenance and upgrades.  \nThis week we will continue working near the top of Candy Mountain.  The section to the benches was built by Ray Merriman pretty much working by himself.  We will be improving the tread and adding more rocks along the edge.  The Trailmaster can provide rides to the top so we don’t have to walk up.  \nThe Trailmaster will provide all the tools and even some homemade cookies at the 10:30 break.  Volunteers will need to bring work gloves\, water and snacks with a pack to carry them\, and dress for the weather forecast.  There isn’t any work for preteens and younger\, it is just hard to keep them motivated for 4 hours. \nSignups help with planning and making sure The Trailmaster bake enough cookies.  Sign-ups are also good in case The Trailmaster make last minute changes to the schedule.  Please let the trailmaster know that you are coming by sending an email to trailmaster@friendsofbadger.org
