Update: The project to widen about a half mile section of the Skyline Trail is in the threes. We have worked on it for three weeks, a third of the trail is completed, a third has had the initial cleanup and the final third is just a mess. As a comparison, last spring we completed about 1000 feet in 7 weeks doing all the digging by hand.

The Skyline Trail from the upper service road crossing to the junction with the Canyon Trail by the towers will remain closed until this project is completed.

The push this week will be to clean up that last third. The rocks need to be separated from the needed dirt and then hauled away. After it is cleaned the trail bed will be smoothed out and then the gravel will be laid down.

The Trailmaster will lead work parties every Thursday through Sunday mornings starting at 8 and ending at noon until around Thanksgiving. The work will be to complete the Skyline Trail project and then move on to other maintenance. The Trailmaster knows, you always wanted to help but can’t seem to get an open day to do it. Well you can schedule a day now and maybe find a friend to come along!

By the Trails Building at the Badger Mountain Westgate parking lot off of Dallas Road.  We will then carpool to near the work site.

The Trailmaster will provide all the tools and even some homemade cookies at the break. Volunteers need to bring work gloves, water, and snacks with a small pack to carry them, and dress for the weather forecast. There isn’t any work for preteens – it is hard to keep them motivated for 4 hours. Those 13 to 15 will have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. You will need to sign-up so the Trailmaster can plan the work, bake enough cookies and let you know if plans change.
